La Sardegna è di certo una delle mete turistiche più ambite di tutto il paese, frequentata sia da italiani, ma soprattutto da moltissimi stranieri, nel corso degli anni è divenuta sempre più sinonimo di locali, vita notturna, yacht e jet set. Pochi ancora sanno apprezzare il vero spirito di questa isola, che solo a primo impatto pare si sia cucita addosso un vestito moderno e standardizzato, adatto per una tipologia di turisti da feste e spiaggia. /Sardegna is one of the most popular tourism destinations of the whole country, it is visited both by Italians and by many foreigners. In the last years it has become more and more a byword of bars, nightlife, yachts and jet set. Still few people can appreciate the real soul if this island, that only initially it looks modern and standardized, the perfect face for the type of tourists that only like parties and going to the beach.
L’entroterra sardo è decisamente poco conosciuto, circondato da una sorta di alone di mistero, i turisti solo solitamente restii nell’andarlo a visitare. In realtà, la Sardegna è una terra davvero stupefacente, ricca di cultura e tradizioni antiche è un vero e proprio mondo a sé rispetto al resto d’Italia. Così, ben pochi conoscono il paese di Orroli, nella provincia di Cagliari, situato proprio nel cuore del suo entroterra, in una zona particolarmente ricca di nuraghi. La terra tutt’intorno non è brulla e secca, come si può facilmente pensare, al contrario è molto rigogliosa, in quanto Orroli si trova a metà strada tra due bacini: il Lago di Flumendosa e il Lago di Mulargia. / Sardegna’s inland is definitely not well known and it is surrounded by an air of mystery, usually tourists are not bound to visit it. In truth, Sardegna is a surprising island, it is rich of culture and old traditions, plus it is a world apart from the rest of Italy. So, few people know the village of Orroli, in the Cagliari province, it is placed in the heart of its inlands, in a area full of Nuraghi. The land all around isn’t barren, as we can easily think, oppositely it is green and flourishing, because Orroli is between two lakes: the Lago di Flumendosa and the Lago di Mulargia.
Il borgo è particolarmente ricco di storia e cultura locale, basti pensare che all’ingresso del paese, i visitatori sono accolti dall’antico “S’Arcu S’Impiccu” cioè l’arco utilizzato in passato per le punizioni corporali e la lettura di sentenze punitive. Proseguendo per la strada principale, si arriva all’ingresso dell’Albergo Diffuso Omu Axiu, che letteralmente significa Casa Vargiu, dal nome dei suoi proprietari. / It is particularly rich of history and local culture, in fact when visitors enter the village, they are welcomed by the ancient “S’Arcu S’Impiccu”, which is the arch used in the past times, for the corporal punishments and the punishing judgments. Following the main street, visitors arrive at the gate of Omu Axiu, literally “Vargiu’s family house”, from the name of its owners.
Omu Axiu appartiene a questa famiglia fin dal 1500 ed è composto da diversi stabili. Un tempo era il nucleo produttivo del paese, ora i Vargiu hanno deciso di adibirlo ad Albergo Diffuso, perché già dalla sua nascita presentava le sembianze di un piccolo borgo. / Omu Axiu is a Vargiu’s property since 1500 and it is composed by different buildings. Once, it was the producing core of the village, but now the Vargius decided to switch it into a Albergo Diffuso, because from the beginning it looked like a small village apart.
L’ingresso di questo AD è come valicare un portale che dà inizio ad un viaggio nel tempo: tutto è rimasto come nel passato. Al centro vi è il pozzo affiancato da un ulivo centenario, tutt’intorno case in pietra, ciascuna delle quali aveva (e ha tutt’ora) una funzione diversa, segue un grosso porticato e la corte interamente lastricata di basole. / Entering this AD is like passing through a door and start a time travel: everything looks like in the past. Right at the centre, there’s a well, placed side by side with a hundred-year old Olive tree, the stone houses are all around and each one used to have (but it still has) a different function, then there’s a big porch and the inside court is made with paving stones.
Omu Axiu è un piccolo borgo vivo, perché oltre alle abitazioni dell’AD (9 matrimoniali e 2 mini suites), al suo interno ha anche una Casa Museo, in cui sono esposti tutti gli attrezzi della vita contadina e sono spiegati i cicli dell’agricoltura, al piano superiore è presente invece il Museo del Ricamo dove vi sono coperte, lenzuoli, biancheria ricamata con pizzi e merletti. Omu Axiu is a small village full of life, because beyond the AD rooms (9 double bedrooms and 2 mini suites), there is also a Museum House, in which all the farmer tools are exposed and the agriculture cycles are explained. Downstairs there is the Embroidery Museum, in which visitors can see blankets and linens decorated with laces.
Non può mancare anche un punto vendita del migliore artigianato locale, cioè cestini, ceramiche, tessuti, coltelli e delle produzioni agroalimentari. Infine il ristorante, durante la stagione estiva i grandi tavoli sono apparecchiati sotto al portico, mentre in inverno sono nell’antica stalla. Trascorrere una vacanza all’interno di questo AD significa veramente soggiornare nella storia e venire a contatto con le tradizioni locali guidati dalla famiglia Vargiu, che meglio di chiunque altro, conosce Orroli e la sua cultura. / There is even a small boutique in which you can buy the local handicraft, like baskets, pottery, fabrics, knives and the best local gastronomy. Finally the restaurant, during summer the big tables are placed under the porch, while in winter they’re inside the old stable.When you pass a vacation in this AD, you can really sleep inside the history and you can easily discover the local traditions guided by the Vargiu family, the best experts about Orroli and its culture.
