Era esattamente 50 anni fa quando Maija Isola disegnava per Marimekko, storica azienda tessile finlandese, una collezione completa a motivi floreale dopo che Armi Ratia, la sua fondatrice, aveva annunciato pubblicamente che non avrebbero mai prodotto tessuti a motivi floreali perché non si sarebbe potuto eguagliare la bellezza di un vero e proprio fiore.
Unikko – papavero in finlandese – è così diventato un’icona, disponibile in numerose varianti colore e declinato su prodotti di ogni genere. Per celebrarlo l’azienda ha deciso di produrre una linea speciale di stoviglie con il famoso pattern in bianco e nero, con un pezzo giallo sole per dare un tocco di colore a un disegno che non dimostra la sua età.
It was exactly 50 years ago that Maija Isola drew for Marimekko, the historic Finnish textile company, a complete collection of floral pattern after Armi Ratia, its founder, had publicly announced that they would never produced floral fabrics because we could not match the beauty of a real flower.
Unikko – in Finnish poppy – has thus become an icon, available in many colourways and available on all kinds of products. To celebrate it, the company decided to produce a special edition line of dinnerware in the famous black and white pattern, with a sunny yellow piece for a touch of colour on a design that does not show its age.
