Inizia con questo primo episodio la nuova finestra mensile che vede in connessione SNKRBX con BoBos. Ogni mese mi occuperò di scegliere una storia, un concept, una sneaker che reputerò la più interessante nel marasma della miriade di uscite. Visto che siamo al primo mese del nuovo anno, sceglierò una storia tra le tante dello scorso anno e vedrò di parlarvene in modo da darvi qualche informazione che non siano le solite.
Tra tutte le release dello scorso anno ci sono stati ritorni di classici importanti, nuovi modelli che hanno conquistato il mercato, flop clamorosi e tante storie di hype. Ho deciso di parlarvi della collaborazione tra Sneaker Freaker, storico magazine australiano, e Puma con il ritorno in pompa magna delle Blaze Of Glory.
Questa release è stata immediatamente riconosciuta dai più esperti, si tratta di una riedizione della coppia di runner “Shark Attack” uscite originariamente nel 2008 e quale migliore occasione di un anniversario del 5° anno per riproporle? A questa release fu a suo tempo affiancata un’edizione Friends & Family limitata a 30 sole paia che avevano la peculiarità di una tomaia in vera pelle di squalo, che conferiva alla scarpa una spettacolarità incredibile. Le due versioni si chiamano Great White e Black Beast e, come fatto da diversi altri brand, Puma optò per la fine dell’utilizzo di materiali ricavati da animali esotici ed a rischio di estinzione. Per alzare il livello è stato disegnato un packaging apposito con degli extra: box quadrato, interni in spugna come i pannelli fonoassorbenti, solette interne, il pendente dente di squalo anodizzato, sacchetto contenente il secondo paio di lacci ed il poster celebrativo. Una cura dei dettagli impeccabile! In questa versione sono stati apportati piccoli cambiamenti, come confermato da SF stesso, per non confondere la versione OG con questa Retro: il calzare ora presenta un colore en pendant con la colorazione della scarpa. Senza scordare l’altissimo livello del nubuck ruvido che si completa con il mesh di altissima qualità.
Non contenti del successo planetario avuto, con sold out immediati in ogni dove ed un riscontro ampiamente positivo, Sneaker Freaker ha proposto una nuova colorway chiamata Sharkbait, in una tonalità turchese tendente al menta. Inizialmente questa nuova versione sarebbe dovuta essere il sequel della Family & Friends in pelle di squalo, ma il risultato è stato così accattivante che si è optato per una release limitatissima con un packaging ampliato che vede rispetto a quello precedente, l’aggiunta di una copia di Sneaker Freaker #29 e di una beanie. La scarpa è stata resa disponibile all’acquisto sul webstore della rivista. Inutile spiegare il perché della scelta di questa scarpa per questa prima puntata, le immagini sono abbastanza eloquenti.
It starts with this first episode, the new monthly spot that shows the connection between SNKRBX and BoBos. Every month I’ll be choosing a story, a concept, a sneaker that I think it’ll be the most interesting among the chaotic plenty of releases. Because it’s the first month of the new year, I’ll pick a story thru all the ones of last year and I’ll write something in a way to deliver to you not the ordinary information. Last year we could see the return of important classics, new models that conquer the market, clamorous flops and a lot of hype. I’ve decided to speak about the collabo between Sneaker Freaker, historic Australian magazine, and Puma with the return in grand style of the Blaze Of Glory. The most experts immediately recognized this release, it’s the reissue of the couple of runners named “Shark Attack”, released initially in 2008 and what better than the 5th Anniversary to propose them again? This release dropped side by side with a Friends & Family edition limited to only 30 pairs with the peculiarity of a real sharkskin upper that was awarding to the shoe an incredible spectacular nature. The two versions were named Great White and Black Beast and, as done by other major brands, Puma decided to stop using exotic animal materials. To step up a level, a special packaging was designed with some extras: squared box, soundproof-like foam rubber interiors, inner soles, anodized shark tooth pendant, a little bag with extra laces and a celebrative poster. A flawless care for details! This version had some small changes, as confirmed by SF, to not confuse the OG version with this Retro: the sockliner is now color coded to match the shoe. Without forgetting the very high level of the wrinkled nubuck that integrates with the high-end mesh. Not satisfied about the worldwide success that they had, with instant sold out everywhere and an extensively positive feedback, Sneaker Freaker has introduced a new colorway called Sharkbait, with a teal tone tending to mint. At the beginning this new version should have been the sequel of the sharkskin Family & Friends, but the result was so charming that they decided to a very limited release with an extending packaging, adding to the previous one a copy of Sneaker Freaker #29 and a beanie. The shoes were available online in the magazine webstore. It’s useless to explain why I choose this shoe for this first episode, the pictures are eloquent enough.
