Colori, tessuti e solidarietà sono questi i principali ingredienti della storia di YOU KHANGA che inizia con la passione per i viaggi, per l’Africa e per la cultura di questo paese che ha ispirato Veruscha Rossi e Benedetta Ceppi, ideatrici di questa nuova realtà. Unire due mondi diversi attraverso i tessuti Made in Kenya da una parte e la professionalità dell’artigianato italiano dall’altra; African life & Italian style, infatti, è il leitmotiv del progetto. Le ballerine e le slippers YOU KHANGA sono disponibili in 18 varianti colore ciascuna e in vendita nei miglior stores in Italia.
Il khanga è il tipico tessuto in cotone stampato dai colori vivaci e decorato con frasi, proverbi e indovinelli bene auguranti scritti in lingua Swahili. E’ un quadrato di tessuto che può essere un abito o un copricapo, può servire per portare i bambini sulla schiena e perfino per decorare le case. Nessun khanga è uguale all’altro, non esistono lavorazioni seriali o stampe laser in Africa così ogni scarpa sarà tagliata in un punto diverso della stoffa in Italia, in un’azienda marchigiana, rendendo, anche di poco, ogni paio unico. La bellezza di questo progetto è anche il suo lato solidale e l’intento di voler contribuire il più possibile allo sviluppo delle popolazioni locali. Per questo i sacchetti, anch’essi confezionati con i khanga, sono prodotti direttamente e in modo artigianale, in Kenya. Parte dei proventi saranno impiegati in progetti di beneficenza dedicati alle donne e ai bambini. Watching the temperature and the time out of the window in these days, thinking of spring and what to wear soon on my feet, makes me feel better. Colors, fabrics and solidarity are the main ingredients of the story of YOU KHANGA that begins with a passion for travel, for Africa and for the culture of this country that inspired Veruscha Rossi and Benedetta Ceppi, the creators of this new reality. Combine two different worlds, fabrics Made in Kenya on one side and the competence of Italian craftsmen on the other; African life & Italian style indeed is the leitmotiv of the project.
Thus the ballerinas and the slippers YOU KHANGA, available in 18 different colors each one and for sale in the best stores in Italy. Fabrics made in Kenya, khanga is the typical printed cotton fabric in bright colors and decorated with phrases, proverbs and riddles written in Swahili language. It’s a square of fabric that can be a dress or a headgear; it can be useful to bring children on backs and even to decorate houses. No khanga is the same as another, there is no serial production or laser prints in Africa so each shoe will be cut in a different part of the fabric in Italy, by a company of the Marche region, making, even slightly, each pair unique. The beauty of this project is also to want to contribute as much as possible to the development of local populations. For this reason the bags, which are also packed with the khanga, are produced directly and in artisan way, in Kenya. A part of the proceeds will be used in charity projects dedicated to women and children.
