Robi | Interview with Tomotaka Takahashi

There is no generation that has not dreamed of owning a robot, no matter if it was huge, like Daitarn3 (120 meters), or with human features, Astroboy (152cm), does not matter, our fantasy is slowly becoming reality. Tomotaka Takahashi can be considered one of the fathers of modern robotics, is an associate professor at the research center and advanced technology at the University of Tokyo. He studied sociology and engineering and Popular Science magazine reported it among men that will change the future. We had the honor to share with him some questions about his latest creation made ​​in collaboration with : ROBI

1) How did the Robi project born?
– When I was looking for the best partner to expand and penetrate humanoid to mass market, DeAgostini Japan team was also looking for brand-new, innovative and unique robot to sell since they have already sold 4 robot titles in Japan market.

2) Where will it bring the Robotics?
– Humanity will the key.

3) How Astroboy (鉄腕アトム) and the Japanese robots in general, have influenced you?
– Yes, I actualy strongly influenced by Astroboy in terms of concept, design, and many other things. It gave me an inspiration to develop robots.

4) Why, in your opinion, is Japan the land where all famous robots were born?
– Japan is the land that has unique pop culture and technology. Robot is the fusion of those cultures and technology.

5) What is your suggestions for people interested in robotics matter?
– The most important thing is to get involved with robotics in very early stage. For example, if my parents bought me a computer 20 or 30 years ago, I might be in a different profession. So, you should start getting involved with robotics world before the industry get matured.
