Classe 1987, una laurea in Interior design all’Istituto Europeo di Design di Milano, un master al Saint Martins College of Arts and Design di Londra, diverse collaborazioni con studi di architettura e design di New York, Istanbul e Londra – dove attualmente vive –, e un sacco di talento: lei è Merve Kahraman e i suoi lavori, specie quelli relativi alla progettazione di interni, continuano a stupire e affascinare pubblico e colleghi.
È il caso della recente collezione Hybrid, due diversi modelli di sedie dagli inconfondibili tratti zoomorfi – le corna di un cervo nel caso di Hybrid No1 e quelle di un coniglio per Hybrid No2 – modellati apposta per conferire un aspetto “bestiale” a chi vi si siede sopra.
Ispirate alla mitologia classica, sono realizzate a mano e curate in ogni dettaglio, dalla scelta dello speciale cuoio utilizzato al particolare trattamento riservato al legno, verniciato con due diverse tecniche a imitare il pellame dei due animali.
She was born in 1987, she studied at the European Institute of Design in Milan, she attended a master’s degree at the Saint Martins College of Arts and Design in London, she has worked for different offices of architecture and design in New York, Istanbul and London – where she actually lives -, and she has got a lot of talent: her name is Merye Kahraman and her works, in particular about interior design, continue to amaze and fascinate public and colleagues. That happened with the last Hybrid collection, two different types of chairs with unmistakable zoomorphic details – the horns of a deer in Hybrid No 1 and the ears of a bunny in Hybrid No 2 – created to look “beastly” people who sit on it. These details are inspirited to classical mythology, they are handmade and cared in every detail, from the special leather choice to particular woodworking, varnished with two different techniques to imitate the leather of these animals.
