la giusta follia / the right kind of craziness
“Ma cosa vai a fare a Berlino? li son tutti poveri, fumano il tabacco perché non si possono permettere le sigarette!” con in sottofondo questa frase lascia il piccolo paese della Germania Ovest dove è cresciuta per trasferirsi a Berlino. Studia moda e impara le basi del taglio e cucito, con una passione per il disegno e per creare vestiti per le sorelle più piccole. Un’opportunità di stage la porta a Barcellona, dove rimane affascinata dalla diversità della cultura latina che fa maturare in lei una forte volontà di scoprire e di mettersi alla prova. Zaino in spalla e un biglietto sola andata per il Sud America: meta Caraibi. Curiosità e un pó di sana incoscienza la portano in un piccolo paesino sperduto tra la giungla ed il mare cristallino, in Costa Rica. Per mantenersi lavora per un piccolo negozio facendo riparazioni e inizia a vendere ai turisti una sua piccola collezione. La licenziano su due piedi e Rahel decide di continuare il suo viaggio su una barca dove disegna per tutto il tempo. A Puerto Viejo si improvvisa illustratrice di post card e crea Piñatas (figure di cartapesta, famose in America latina) con cui si guadagna da vivere. Dopo un anno all’avventura ritorna a Berlino con una valigia piena di progetti. Realizza Lashopp, un laboratorio-shop che diventa il suo luogo di casa e lavoro. Rahel ricerca, disegna e crea abiti, coinvolgendo amici e conoscenti, piccoli artisti che vogliono esporre i propri lavori, artigiani che lavorano il legno e cemento, fashion designer, fotografi appena usciti dalla scuola, e si fa conoscere. Organizza eventi e workshop, maratone di comics e corsi di cucito. / “But what are you going to do in Berlin? They are all poor, smoke tobacco because they can not afford cigarettes!” while listening to this sentence leaves the small town of West Germany where she grew up and moved to Berlin. She studied fashion and learn the basics of cutting and sewing with a passion for drawing and creating clothes for her younger sisters. The opportunity of a stage brings her in Barcelona, where she remained fascinated by the diversity of the Latin culture that matures in her a strong desire to discover and to prove. Backpack and a one-way ticket to South America: Caribbean destination. Curiosity and a bit of healthy unconsciousness took her to a small remote village in the jungle and the sea, in Costa Rica to keep working for a small shop doing repairs and started selling its visitors a small collection. The fired on the spot and Rachel decides to continue her journey on a boat where she designed all the time. In Puerto Viejo is sudden illustrator post card and creates Pinatas (papier-mâché figures, famous in Latin America) that makes a living. After a year she returned to Berlin adventure with a suitcase full of projects. Realize Lashopp, a laboratory-shop which became his place of work and home. Rahel research, designing and creating clothes, involving friends and acquaintances, young artists who want to exhibit their work, craftsmen who works with wood and cement, fashion designers, photographers just out of school, and you know. Organize events and workshops, marathons comics and sewing classes.

[column grid=”2″ span=”1″]- nella vita sei… una persona che crede nell’artigianato e vive creando quello che ama: vestiti.– il tuo motto… meglio un bicchiere mezzo pieno che uno mezzo vuoto. Alles wird gut! ( = tutto andrà bene) basta buttarsi. Il rischio e l’insicurezza mi intimoriscono ogni giorno ma non gli do molta attenzione, perché penso che se non ci provo non accadrà mai nulla.
– il tuo colore… non saprei scegliere un colore preferito… posso dirti che non mi piacciono nè il grigio nè il nero perché in germania ne abbiamo in abbondanza durante l’ inverno.
– la tua parola chiave… metodo e follia. Un pizzico di follia aiuta ad avere meno paura e ad impegnarsi giorno dopo giorno per realizzare i propri sogni.
– cosa ha fatto scattare il cambiamento… quando sono partita per il Sud America sola col mio zaino in spalla ho capito che potevo cavarmela benissimo autonomamente. Sono tornata con una gran voglia di libertà e piano piano mi sono costruita la mia attività. Non é tanto il luogo in cui sei piuttosto come sei a fare la differenza.
– cosa o chi ti ha ispirato… un periodo di formazione presso una fashion designer a Colonia. La osservavo mentre creava liberamente, nel suo piccolo laboratorio, e ho capito che “da grande” sarei diventata così.
– la goccia che ha fatto traboccare il tuo vaso… il viaggio in Costa Rica mi ha cambiato totalmente. Mi sono messa alla prova e dopo aver vissuto un anno inventandomi qualsiasi lavoro per sopravvivere ho capito che potevo andare dappertutto.
– salto nel vuoto o nel materasso… nel vuoto totale! non conoscevo nessuno a Berlino e non sapevo bene come organizzare un’attività dal punto di vista burocratico. Ma credo che il salto nel vuoto sia il mio sport preferito.
– la crisi, opportunità o minaccia… la crisi credo sia un’opportunità di cambiamento, uno stimolo a stravolgere tutto e ripartire da zero.
– presente e passato: il tuo prima e il tuo adesso… il presente é ció che sognavo nella mia testa. Ora io sono il capo di me stessa e sono responsabile di ciò che sono e di ciò che faccio. Il passato sono pazze avventure che rifarei subito.
– progetti futuri… tanti! sto per iniziare nuove collaborazioni con artisti locali per le creazioni di giacche da uomo e Lashopp sta diventando sempre di più un luogo di condivisione. Sto lavorando per creare capi riutilizzando oggetti estranei alla moda ed è un progetto che sarà il prossimo novembre alla Fiera della Creatività di Berlino.

– your motto in life… a glass half full rather than half empty one. Alles wird gut! (= Everything will be fine) just jump. The risk and insecurity frighten me every day but I do not give a lot of attention, because I think it will not happen if I do not try anything.
– your colour… I could not choose a favorite color … I can tell you that I do not like neither gray nor black because in germany we have in abundance during the ‘winter.
– your key word… method and madness. Knock it helps to have less fear and to work hard every day to achieve their dreams.

– what or who inspired you… a period of training at a fashion designer in Cologne. I watched while creating freely, in his small workshop, and I realized that “grew up” would become so.
– what was the straw that broke the camel’s back… the trip to Costa Rica has changed me completely. I put to the test and after having lived a year inventing any job to survive I realized I could go anywhere.
– jumping into a void or a mattress… in the total vacuum! I knew no one in Berlin and I did not know how to organize an activity from the bureaucratic point of view. But I think the leap of faith is my favorite sport.
– the crisis: opportunity or threat… I think the crisis is an opportunity for change, a stimulus to overturn everything and start from scratch.

– future plans… many! I am about to start new collaborations with local artists for the creations of men’s jackets and Lashopp is becoming more and more a place to share. I am working to create garments reusing objects unrelated to fashion and is a project which will be in November at the Fair of Creativity in Berlin. [/column]
Rahel è giusta perché … prenota biglietti di sola andata, ritorna carica di progetti e li realizza. Con quella giusta dose di follia. / Rahel is right because… book one-way tickets, back office projects and carries them out. With the right dose of craziness.
