Quando i gatti diventano superstar

Che i video di gatti, gattini e gattoni su YouTube spopolino è ormai ben noto. Quali però siano i più famosi no. Qui non si parla solo di visualizzazioni, ma di tutti quegli elementi che compongono le vere (ma non si sa quanto volute e studiate) strategie di marketing che si nascondono dietro i nomi di 3 gatti considerati ad oggi i più celebri nel world wide web. Questi sono Grumpy Cat, Simon’s Cat e Lil Bub. / That videos of cats, big cats and kittens on YouTube take their moments is now well known. Which, however, are the most famous maybe not. Il primo (Simon’s Cat) è infatti un cartone animato, mentre Lil Bub e Crumpy Cat sono due gatti in carne ed ossa un pò “particolari” e se vogliamo speciali. Cercherò di riassumere in breve come, dove e perchè questi tre personaggi siano diventati delle vere “supercatstar”. / Three worlds, three stories, three characters, but especially three very different realities. Il broncio è dovuto a una forma di nanismo che colpisce Tardar.

Il successo

Basta solo dire tre cose. Da Gennaio 2013 il nome Grumpy Cat e l’espressione del suo volto sono un marchio registrato. Il video “The original Grumpy Cat” ha totalizzato 9 milioni di visualizzazioni. Friskies gli ha pagato un volo di prima classe, un autista, un assistente personale, e cibo illimitato, per l’evento SXSW, dove oltre 1000 persone lo hanno aspettato per una foto insieme.

Mezzi

Il meme della sua espressione e il fatto che questa subito creduta frutto di una manipolazione in photoshop si sia rivelata reale sono il punto di partenza della sua vita da star. L’aurea di negatività che circondano il suo volto e le frasi secche e crude attribuitele nelle diverse immagini sul web sono la carta vincente che hanno reso Crumpy Cat l’icona della franchezza e l’incarnazione dei detti “senza peli sulla lingua” e “mai una gioia”.

Questo gatto non ha un vero nome, ma almeno un padrone che si chiama per l’appunto Simon Tofield, illustratore e fumettista britannico che nel 2008 crea questa mini serie con protagonista un gatto, il quale in ogni episodio escogita un nuovo modo per farsi dare da mangiare.

Il successo

Il successo di questo personaggio sta nel cogliere alcune caratteristiche comuni nei gatti e nella vita dei padroni di questi, inserite all’interno di un’ animazione di circa un minuto e mezzo, illustrate in modo pulito e semplice. Il tutto accompagnate da rumori, musiche e suoni ben calibrati e somiglianti ai comuni versi felini. Ogni spettatore riconosce un po’ di sé e del proprio animale in ciò che vede.

Mezzi

La capacità di Simon è stato creare il portale www.simonscat.com il quale non veste solo il ruolo di sito di riferimento per la serie, ma è diventato un vero e proprio punto di riferimento per gli amanti dei gatti. Infatti grazie al blog e alla comunity ogni persona può entrare attivamente nel mondo di Simon’s Cat e pubblicare le foto del proprio gattino. Il tutto ovviamente accompagnato al merchandising, come i libri, i pupazzi e i gadget del gatto bianco più famoso al mondo.

P.s. Simon Tofield non possiede davvero questo gattone protagonista della serie, ma ne ha ben quattro diversi, muse ispiratrici dei suoi caratteri.

Lil (Little) Bub è una gatta speciale, nata con una serie di malformazioni genetiche. Oltre a diverse deformazioni ossee non ha denti, è affetta da nanismo e ha un dito in più per zampa. L’espressione se vogliamo “assente” di Lil Bub, con questa linguetta sempre fuori dalla bocca, il fatto che strisci più che camminare per via delle zampe estremamente corte rispetto al corpo e che rantoli più che miagolare ha trasformato questo gattino in una star.

Il successo

Lil Bub conquista il web in modo involontario e virale. Giustamente definito cosi; “…la versione gattesca di una lunga storia di outsider che ce l’hanno fatta. In questo senso potrebbe vantare una parentela ideale con Stephen Hawking e Lady Gaga.”. Lil Bub giunge al suo apice con la presentazione al Tribeca Film Festival di New York del documentario sulla sua vita prodotto da Vice dal titolo “Lil Bub & Friendz”.

Mezzi

Cavalcando l’onda il suo padrone Henry mantiene il suo blog e invade tutti i social network di foto e video  che ritraggono il piccolo Bub nella sua difficile vita da star. In molti sorridono sull’espressione bizzarra di Lil Bub, ma devo ammettere che quelli che lo hanno fatto più “artisticamente” sono quei pazzi di Unotre e qui trovate l’articolo.
