Non lo vedevo da 4 anni e ritrovarlo è stato un immenso piacere. Anche perchè, c’è poco da fare: Simon Panella ha il fuoco sacro. Bisogna vederlo da vivo quando, tempo zero, riesce a disegnarti una storia di quattro pagine che potrebbe essere tranquillamente pubblicata. Perchè Simon è così: passione e talento. Un numero 10 di estro che disorienta gli avversari, in questo caso i lettori. Grandi pause e grandi giocate. E una capacità narrativa davvero invidiabile.
La spontaneità è senza dubbio una delle armi a disposizione di Simon. Ecco perchè è impossibile non apprezzare il progettino che ha lanciato di recente: La Donnina del Giorno. Una pagina che potrebbe sembrare sessista, ma rappresenta invece un tripudio allegro alla sensualità e alla fantasia di Panella. Dentro vi ritroviamo tutto l’immaginario dal quale pesca l’artista di Vercelli: la fantascienza, lo sport, il rock (Simon suona anche la batteria coi Maleducatones), la fumettista al tavolo da disegno, gli omaggi a Tank Girl o ai film di genere. Illustrazioni sensuali e ironiche allo stesso tempo, gradite anche al pubblico femminile a giudicare dai like che spuntano.
Dopo essere stato uno dei pionieri del progetto Self Comics (etichetta indipendente ormai terminata che ha comunque festeggiato i 10 anni all’ultimo TCBF) e aver disegnato per svariati progetti, attualmente Simon, autodefinitosi in passato il Re del fumetto, è ora al lavoro su una nuova, segretissima, graphic novel. Con un pizzico di continuità in più, potrà diventare uno degli autori di fumetto italiani più apprezzati.
