Even winter time, with its cold and uncertain weather, can be a lovely surprise in this small, but huge Italian region. Umbria is unforgettable, because of its strong personality. It knows what it wants and most of all it desires to show it to all its visitors. Lost in one of its hill valleys, the small hamlet of Casigliano, with less than 100 people and with its small dimensions, hides a huge heritage of history and culture appropriate for a big city.
È il suo castello a renderlo decisamente particolare, che dal 1500 accoglie le diverse famiglie susseguitesi al dominio della zona, ponendosi come istituzione del potere, ma oggi ha deciso di rendersi accogliente per chiunque desideri trascorrere un po’ di tempo, in questo angolo di Umbria. Il Castello di Casigliano non è solo un reperto storico di inestimabile valore, ma è uno splendido esempio di ospitalità diffusa. Per un’esperienza completa, la Suite Primae Noctis è la prima camera restaurata nel castello, arredata con mobili antichi in legno, caratterizzata da volte in pietra e pavimenti originali. Poi ci sono altri sei appartamenti, dislocati nelle antiche abitazioni del borgo: il Forno, la Posta, il Gelsomino, il Noce, il Melograno e il Mulino, situato appunto in un antico mulino del ‘200.

The Castello di Casigliano is not only a historical heritage, but it is also a splendid example of Ospitalità Diffusa (diffuse hospitality). For a total experience, the Suite Primae Noctis is the first room recovered inside the Castle, enriched with ancient furnitures and characterized by stone vaults and original floors. There are 6 more apartments spread along the village: the Forno, the Posta, the Gelsomino, the Noce, the Melograno and the Mulino, placed in a XIII century mill.
Nella golosità della terra umbra, non poteva mancare di certo un’autentica locanda dove poter gustare i piatti della tradizione. La Locanda Il Re Beve è aperta da poco più di 10 anni, ma gode già di una gastronomia di altissimo livello, fregiandosi di numerosi premi. Ciò che più importa però, è il rispetto che la cucina nutre verso la tradizione locale, un rispetto delle materie prime non scontato, che determina la variazione del menu ogni mese, a seconda di ciò che la natura offre. Semplicità degli ingredienti, accompagnata da un’elaborazione sapiente, moderna e raffinata, per creare piatti dal gusto antico, ma sempre contestualizzato ai nostri giorni. Alcuni dei piatti che si possono gustare sono: porchetta con bruschette all’olio extra vergine, i tagliolini cacio, pepe e tartufo, carne d’angus alla brace con cicorietta piccante e poi formaggi e salumi umbri, accompagnati da ottimo Sagrantino.
In the great culinary tradition of Umbria, it has to exist an authentic restaurant, where people can taste traditional dishes. The tavern Il Re Beve is opened since 1997, but it has already won many important awards because of its excellent quality. But the most important thing about the restaurant is the respect towards local traditions, the esteem of basic ingredients that determines the variation of menu from season to season, following what nature can offer. Simplicity of ingredients, together with a wise, modern and refined elaboration, to create dishes with an ancient taste, but a modern personality. Some of the dishes guests can taste are: pork meat with extra virgin olive oil bruschette, tagliolini with cacio cheese and pepper, angus meat with spicy chicory, Umbrian cheese and cold cuts, with an excellent glass of Sagrantino.
Negli ambienti antichi e unici del castello, caratterizzati da travi in legno, pavimenti in cotto e mobilio d’epoca, trascorrere le proprie vacanze di Natale è un lusso senza rivali. Non si tratta di un lusso sfarzoso, generato dalla preziosità degli arredi. Piuttosto, è l’accoglienza e il rispetto per l’autenticità a determinarne il vero valore.
