We all dreamt of being finally free at least once in a lifetime. Being free from constraints, free from the obligations of our lives, free to choose what it’s better for ourselves just following what we really desire to do. A never-ending road, a backpack and passion, trying to catch the sun when it raises and when it goes down, just loving every turn of that road, discovering landscapes, faces and stories. In our minds traveling is the absolute ideal of freedom, that gives us the chance of a new beginning in which almost everything is in our hands by cutting ties with our past lives. From this idea of free travel it was born one of the most innovative and interesting projects of the last years. It is called Favella Lab and it puts together 8 creative contemporary minds in a small village of Calabria, southern Italy. Objective: find new ways of traveling and making videos and artistic productions about it.
In the ancient villa called borgo Favella in Corigliano Calabro, the 8 selected protagonists that chose travel as a new way of life are meeting now. From the astrologist brothers, to Darinka who is discovering Italy by feet and Clelia that decided to leave the Burberry offices in London to visit the world alone, with a one way ticket. Then there are the cyclist and the motorcyclist who travelled from Venezia to Pechino with a motor-scooter. Eight creative minds that have seen some of the most stunning places in the world and they travelled all around the world to collect experiences, stories and images. From the 18th to the 26th of July they will meet in this beautiful villa of ‘700 to create. Creating beauty. Finding new ways of independent traveling, far from the economical matters and making a video of it: “so that all the people in the world can be free to travel, to know, to get in touch with different cultures and to live new experiences climbing over the economical limits that prevent us to travel freely”.
We only have now to get stuck in front of the computer during the next 9 days of Favella Lab, to see what the protagonists can invent and to travel a little bit even being seated in front of our screens. To live again the emotions and adrenaline of the road, of the unexpected, of the news, of the total break, of freedom.
